Michigan Must Ban Vaccine Passports

Vaccine Passports

Recently, Governor Whitmer gave Michigan residents who have been concerned life would never return to normal, a glimpse into an even darker vision for their future.

Whitmer announced “benchmarks” our state needs to reach in order to “return to normal.”  The exact numbers for her requirements are arbitrary, and less important than the fact that they were even suggested at all.

Philosophically speaking, Whitmer had no right to strip our freedoms to begin with--She made unilateral choices by locking out the people’s legislature, and the damage her policies created are in some cases irreversible, including needless deaths, and the permanent closure of businesses all over the state.

After over a year of this abuse, Whitmer presents a single path to normalcy that will inevitably pit Michigan residents against one another.  She is for lack of a better expression, blackmailing the people she serves into either accepting an experimental treatment for the Chinese Coronavirus, or face the idea that mask mandates and other restrictions will go on indefinitely!

Natural herd immunity has been replaced with government mass vaccination--placing the burden of getting back the freedoms Whitmer seized in the laps of Michigainers, who for whatever reason do not want to get an experimental injection.  So, in order to be acceptable in society, you must accept a shot?

What residents now must consider is that in either scenario of Whitmers benchmarks being reached or not, how would the growing talk of vaccine passports factor in?

Enter a group of Michigan legislators who are putting legislation together that would effectively ban vaccine passports in the state entirely.  This move is critical to preventing government from creating a two-tier society though one of the most discriminatory ideas in modern times.

Representative Sue Allor, with the supported by several of her collogues, has already presented a proposal that would prevent state government from issuing vaccine passports.  Other representatives are planning similar bills.

Banning government from requiring a special ID based on a citizen’s personal medical choices is a no brainer, and Rep. Allor should be applauded for taking an important first step.  In baseball terms, this is the leadoff single to get the game going.

However, to ensure that vaccine passports never become reality, we need to double down to cover all of the bases.

A bi-partisan group of Michigan State Representatives led by Steve Carra and Beau Lafave have just given Michigan residents exactly what is needed to continue enjoying daily life free from these “national permission ID’s”.

A package of bills, HB4789-4794, are aimed at preventing government from abusing businesses through regulation requiring them to verify proof of vaccination, and to prevent any businesses from going off on their own to demand the same from their employees or customers.  Additionally, there are appropriate penalties that would be awarded to the victims of this type of discrimination.

Another bill introduced by these representatives would prevent immunization information to be added to ID cards, such as a driver’s license.

One more amendment that is needed to perfect these bills would be for state government to cut off the funding of any publicly funded college or university that requires proof of vaccine in order to attend school or live on campus.

One of our nation’s founders, Benjamin Rush warned about “a hidden dictatorship” if we failed to include medical freedom in our Bill of Rights.

What we cannot do is to be satisfied with only preventing government from the issuance of such an ID, there are so many other layers to the idea of a government permission slip to enjoy the God given rights spelled out in our Constitution.  Vaccine passports will further divide us, create animosity, create a two-tier society, create black markets, and give rise to dictators and treachery within our government.

It is vital that we each stay engaged on this issue, contact our friends and family, and to let our state legislators know we demand that they defend our liberties by preventing vaccine passports from every creeping its way into our daily lives as Michigan residents.
