To Whom It May Concern:

I am a Christian. This means that I am a follower of Jesus Christ. My faith in Jesus Christ's meritorious work for me through His sinless life, death upon the cross, burial, and resurrection is at the center of who I am, what I do, and how I live my life. I firmly believe the message of John 3:16 which says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." I have done the very thing that this verse tells me I must do to receive God's free gift of salvation from my sin, and because of my faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I have complete confidence that I am a child of the Living God. I am grateful for God's grace, mercy, and the patience He has shown to me in bringing me to these truths.

Because of my Christianity, and my faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I possess certain religious and spiritual convictions about my mind, body, and soul that are based on my understanding of God, who He is, why He created me, and what His purpose is for me in this world. These spiritual/religious convictions lead me to the firm belief that I must not accept any way the Covid-19 vaccination into my body. This is, for me, a strong religious conviction.

My religious convictions are as follows:

1.     As a Christian, my body is the temple or dwelling place of the Holy Spirit of God, who is also known as the third member of the Trinity.

The Apostle Paul addresses this matter clearly in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 when he writes, "Or, do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body." It is clear that, ultimately, my body belongs to the Lord. It is His dwelling place. Therefore, I have a responsibility to be watchful and careful regarding what I do with my body, how I use my body, and even, what I allow into my body. I am strongly convicted to not allow these Covid-19 vaccines into my body, which is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit of God.

2.     As a Christian, I know that whatever I do not of faith, is sin.

Christians do not agree on everything. Even in this matter of Covid vaccines there is disagreement. Historically, Christians have disagreed over whether or not to eat certain meats that had been offered to non-Christian gods/idols. Some would eat the meat while others could not bring themselves to do so in full faith that it was acceptable to God. So, once again, the Apostle Paul addressed this matter in Romans 14:23 where he wrote, "But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin." Just as I am not to eat certain foods, drink certain drinks, or participate in any activity in which I doubt whether it be right or not, so I am not to allow myself to have the Covid-19 vaccination placed within my body given the reality of my doubts about it. I cannot do so in faith, therefore, I must not. Otherwise, I will be guilty of sin against God and my own conscience. Hebrews 13:18 says, "Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly."

2 Corinthians 5:6-7 says, "So, we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight." As a Christian, I am called to walk by faith and not by sight. This means that there are times when I will experience a leading of the Holy Spirit of God who dwells within me (since my body is His temple) to take steps in certain directions in this life that may not be fully understood by others. Yes, perhaps, this means that I open myself to the accusation of being foolish and "ignoring reason and science." Yet, this matter of walking by faith in obedience to the Lord is so important that God has told me that "whatsoever is not of faith is sin."

3.     As a Christian, I believe that spiritual protection and healing ultimately comes from God.

Yes, I believe in the efficacy of science, medicine, facts, data, and conclusions drawn from cogent analysis of empirical evidence. I am a rationale, thinking, human being who understands fully what it means to examine, analyze, and come to conclusions after the consideration of all the facts and evidence. But, I am not a one-dimensional being. I am a multi-faceted being who possesses a body of flesh and blood, yet having been created in the image of God, I am a being that also possesses a spirit and soul. Genesis 2:7 says, "Then the Lord God formed the man of the dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature."

As a created being of God, having within myself a spirit and soul given to me by my Creator, I realize that my ultimate protection, care, and healing comes from the Lord. God knows my body better than anyone because He is the maker of it. Psalm 139:13-16 says, "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them." My Creator-God is also my ultimate healer. Yes, He can choose to use modern means, methods, and medicines to give me protection, and at times, to bring me healing when I need it. But, as a multi-faceted human being who possesses a spirit and soul, I also recognize that my God is the ultimate healer and sustainer of my life. Psalm 103;2-3 says, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases." Over and over again in the Gospels within the New Testament, we read story after story of how the Lord Jesus Christ healed men and women who had serious infirmities. Just as in Matthew 9, we read about the Lord performing a number of significant healings. In Matthew 9:1-8, Jesus heals a paralyzed man enabling him to walk again. In Matthew 9:18-26, Jesus heals a woman with an issue of blood. In Matthew 9:27-31, Jesus heals two blind men and restores their sight.

I believe that the Lord is still able to directly heal in this way today. My body is the temple of the living God, I am commanded to do whatever I do of faith, otherwise it is sin, and I know that ultimately, my God is my healer and my sustainer in this life. For these spiritual/religious convictions, I am lead to this point where I must respectfully decline receiving any Covid vaccination, and I humbly request you grant my religious exemption accordingly.

Sincerily,
